Eupatorium JoJo
A sterile version that has the most beautiful flowers for months.
JoJo is a sterile form of fistulosum with the most amazing, fluffy pink flowers. Since it is sterile, this new selection flowers for a super long period - from early July to a hard frost, extending the sales window for Joe Pye Weed by at least a month.
I saw JoJo for the first time in 2022 at the PPA conference in Lancaster, PA. I was drooling then and am still in love now. I have been friends with John Courtney, one of the owners of Kind Earth Growers, since my days directing the Millersville Native Plants Conference. John is an amazing plantsman, and his nursery specializes in seed-grown selections of native plants. They found Jojo in a flat of fistulosum, and knew they had to save and introduce it.
The flowers are so full and round, that they resemble blue ageratum flowers. When pinched properly, this joe pye can make a full 3 gallon pot, loaded with flowers.
Another great thing about Jojo - no seeding around in garden beds. As much as we all love Joe Pye, it can be troublesome in a cultivated garden bed, dropping seedlings in the middle of all your grasses and perennials. Not JoJo - she's a polite lady, who puts on an amazing show, yet keeps all the beauty close.
