Everything you ever wanted to know about
Thuja 'Junior Giant'
Why do you need Junior Giant in your life OR in your nursery?
The more we learn about Junior Giant, the more we love this plant.
Junior Giant is a sport of Thuja 'Green Giant'. There are a lot of sports on the market, and many claim to be dwarf. Junior Giant grows 60% as tall as Green Giant, so when Green Giant matures at 50', Junior Giant will top out at 25-30'. When you use this plant in your home garden or in a commercial landscape, that means a LOT less trimming.
Not only is Junior Giant shorter, but it's got a better habit, with a teardrop shape, making it fuller, bushier, and much more attractive. There are no open spaces between the branches. This is a bushy, fluffy selection. If you know Thuja 'Emerald Green' - it's got that feel. The soft, fragrant, deep green fronds are wavy and thick, making for a much denser plant in any setting.

What else have we learned?
Junior Giant makes a better hedging & screening plant
Because it matures at 60% the size of Green Giant and has fluffier fronds and fuller, tighter branches, Junior Giant requires less trimming to make a superior hedge or screen planting.
Plant Junior Giants on 5' centers for the perfect planting that will not overgrow, is deer resistant and can take full sun and drought conditions once established. Less trimming means less time spent working in the garden and more time enjoying the space.
Green Giants will grow faster, but faster is not always better. Faster growth means you will quickly have super tall plants, but those tall plants will be thinner and have an open shape. Junior Giant is fuller, and because each frond is fluffier, it will fill in nicely and require much less trimming to make the perfect teardrop shape.
