Begonia Summer Storm

Lower growing with large, colorful, textured leaves.

Begonias are plentiful, but not many stand up to the heat and humidity as well as Summer Storm. Bred by tropical plant lover and former Smithsonian Museum Taxonomist, John Boggan, this new selection has held up beautifully in his D.C. garden for years.

Deep eggplant purple leaves have a celery green, silverish veil. Peachy-pink flowers come mid-summer and last until fall. This selection is wider than tall and covered in puckered leaves with deep purple, almost black veins.

Using genetics from several Begonia species in his breeding, John's goal was to find begonias that would stand up to the grueling heat and humidity of the mid-Atlantic and prove to be much hardier and more resilient than average rex begonias.
