This selection was bred by AB-Cultivars of The Netherlands. Meringue has apple-green disk flowers that elongate to form creamy yellow tubular flowers surrounded by crisp white ray petals. Why should you grow and sell another coneflower? Well...Meringue is quite different from what's on the market. It is a dwarf, double white that re-blooms as much as 'Pink Double Delight'. Last year, in nursery trials, it was a stellar performer. A test block of 25 one gallons in full bloom were very uniform in appearance, had consistent bloom counts and stiff sturdy stems that made for quite the boxy little selection. In my garden, I cut 3 dozen blooms from 3 plants to display at the PPA and still had blooms on the plants. The plants are still blooming strong and they've been in bloom nonstop since late June - much like Pink Double Delight.
Unlike Pink Double Delight, this new selection from Arie Blom of AB-Cultivars, is strong and upright, with thick, deep green leaves much more indicative of the species. The blooms begin pure white and age to a greenish-white similar to the color of 'Coconut Lime'. Compared to Coconut Lime, the blooms are much smaller and there's many more of them and like I said, they open pure white. The ray petals are much shorter and the pompom is more compact. The plant is a bit shorter as well. AB's quest for dwarf, more floriferous coneflowers with pom pom-like blooms resulted in this amazing new introduction. Perfect for smaller spaces or mid-border placement, Meringue will light up the evening in any garden with it's glowing white petals. This plant has continuously bloomed from July to September in many garden settings. Echinacea Purpurea ‘Meringue' is like icing or better yet delicious meringue... on the top of your garden!
Please note: We don't sell plants. Asking your local retailer or googling the plant name is the easiest way to find someone selling our plants.
